Expertise:

Dr. Betty Patterson Shadrick has held progressively responsible positions in educational institutions, community-based and state government agencies for over three decades. Applying her skills in teaching, counseling, and administration, she has worked to create access to educational and career opportunities for all people, and especially individuals from underserved, economically challenged environments. From her early experiences working with pre-K and Head Start children, elementary and secondary youths; and now undergraduate and graduate students, she has covered the entire spectrum of delivery within the educational pipeline. In the process, she has helped individuals reach and achieve their goals and transform their lives by embracing the freeing and liberating power of becoming educated and informed citizens.

Seminars/Keynotes Offered:

An adjunct professor in the School of Education and the Department of Africana Studies, she currently teaches Urban Education courses and has taught Black Religion courses. Her expertise as a workshop facilitator, retreat leader, and keynote speaker is well-known and she has facilitated workshops locally, nationally, and internationally on diverse topics. Some of these topics include : sisterly relations, spirituality and wellness, self-empowerment, the power of positive thought, the graduate application process, effective decision-making, multicultural education, and indicators of academic success for African American college students, to name a few.

Her educational preparation includes B. S. in Elementary Education from Grambling State University, M.S. and CAS (Certificate of Advanced Standing) in Counseling Psychology and Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from the University at Albany, SUNY. She is cited in Who's Who in America, Outstanding Women of the 21st Century, and is a recipient of the New York State Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.
