Dr. Shields Norman is the library media specialist and
technology coordinator at Thomas Johnson Middle
School in Lanham, Maryland. Prince George's County
Public Schools. She serves as adjunct faculty at Sojourner-
Douglass College in Annapolis, Maryland and is the
owner/CEO of The Shields Group, LLC, an educational
and personal development consulting firm.
Dr. Shields Norman owns and operates a pre-K Montessori week-end
school. She has presented various workshops on early childhood and
independence in the very young child. During 2004 Dr. Norman was
a presenter at the Professional Woman Network International Conference
in Louisville, Kentucky, and serves on the 2006 Woman Network International
Advisory Board.
Before returning to the library profession, Dr. Shields Norman taught Pre-K
Montessori for eight years. She has been an educator for 38 years and is committed to the
education of children, youth and adults, encouraging them to reach their highest potential
and become all they can be.
Certification in the following areas qualifies Dr. Shields Norman to be of great service
to many: Leadership Skills for Women, Becoming the Assertive Woman, Self-esteem
and Self-empowerment, pre-K Montessori, and Anger Management for Young People.
Dr. Shields Norman is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and the sixth
child of seven. She currently resides in Bowie, Maryland with her
two sons Yohance and Zikomo. Dr. Shields Norman holds a Bachelor's
degree in sociology from Tuskegee University, Master's in Library
Science from Atlanta University, Master's in Elementary Education
American International College; Master's in Guidance and Psychological
Services from Springfield College, and is AMI certified as pre-K
Montessori. She is currently awaiting the conferment of doctorate
of education from NOVA Southeastern University.
